The sad story. At 106,000 miles [just out of warranty], the engine in our new-to-us 1999 SAAB 9-5 SE seized. In Brief: The bolts that hold the main pulley to the main shaft came loose, the pulley jammed against the shaft, then really bad things happened and the engine seized. Happened suddenly and without warning and no one has ever heard of such a thing. I wasn't able to get a lot of pix, but these few can give you an idea of what happened. This had nothing to do with oil, clogged sump, or anything like that. We now have a "new" engine that had less than 40Kmiles on it and all is well, but an expensive and painful lesson. What's the lesson you ask? Buy an extended warranty.... |
